Many people living with mental illness have difficulty maintaining lives in their communities for a number of reasons, including the cyclical nature of their illnesses, the isolation in which they live, a lack of meaningful avocations and vocations, and poverty. Our goal is to develop new housing that facilitates the creation of communities of peers and integration with the greater community.

Assisted Living Apartments

Currently we offer one Assisted Living facility, the first such in Minnesota. This facility offers individuals guaranteed housing stability, enhancing their quality of life and furthering their capacity for recovery.

Residents live in small apartments with three or four roommates, each sleeping in his or her own bedroom. We offer congregate dining twice per day, at lunch and dinner. At least one staff member is on site 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Residents also receive a variety of therapeutic supports from our staff to prevent hospitalization. [more]

Intentional Communities

The first such supportive housing in Minnesota, our Intentional Communities combine the advantages of a private apartment with those of a close-knit neighborhood. Members frequently socialize with other members, establish holiday traditions together, participate in activities that reflect shared interests and generally become good neighbors involved in the lives of others.

Our program serves up to 40 consumers and provides housing subsidies that fund scattered-site apartments for 25 of those individuals. In addition to stable housing for members, the expanded community provides two meeting sites for its members’ activities, one in the Seward neighborhood and one in the Phillips neighborhood of Minneapolis.

Our staff provides home-based supports to these individuals. [more]
